PostGres Sql L3 - The PostgreSQL Database Administrator is responsible for installation, configuration, and operational support of enterprise PostgreSQL database platforms across on‑premises and cloud environments including AWS RDS. The role ensures availability, performance, reliability, and compliance of database services in line with agreed SLAs, security standards, and operational procedures. This role oversees database operations for large-scale environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and compliance with client SLAs. The individual drives continuous improvement, manages incident escalations, and empowers teams through expert technical leadership in PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MS SQL platforms. They are accountable for delivering robust solutions, optimizing processes, and fostering innovation to meet evolving business and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead database operations using PostgreSQL, Oracle RAC/ASM, and MS SQL, ensuring optimal performance, high availability, and adherence to client SLAs in production environments.
- Implement advanced monitoring and automation tools for proactive issue detection and resolution across PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MS SQL platforms.
- Drive root cause analysis and resolution of complex database incidents, leveraging expertise in PostgreSQL and Oracle Administration to minimize downtime and ensure data integrity.
- Mentor and guide the support team in executing database backup, recovery, patching, and upgrade activities, ensuring compliance with security and audit requirements.
- Collaborate within the team to develop and refine operational processes using PostgreSQL and Oracle best practices, fostering continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
- Provide expert solutions for database scalability, performance tuning, and capacity planning using PostgreSQL and Oracle RAC/ASM technologies.
- Evaluate and introduce innovative tools and techniques to enhance database reliability, automation, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure transparent communication of project and operational goals within the team, aligning database operations with organizational and client objectives.
Act as L2 escalation point for complex PostgreSQL and RDS database incidents and performance issues. Design, review, and optimize PostgreSQL architectures including HA, replication, clustering (Patroni, PgBouncer, etc.). Administer and manage AWS RDS for PostgreSQL including provisioning, scaling, backup, and automation. Lead database performance tuning, query optimization, and index management activities. Plan and execute PostgreSQL upgrades, migrations (on-prem to cloud/RDS), and patching. Ensure high availability, disaster recovery (replication, failover strategies), and backup validation. Define and enforce database standards, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives. Monitor database performance using tools (CloudWatch, pg_stat views, etc.) and provide health reports. Manage database security, access controls, encryption, and compliance requirements. Perform capacity planning, storage scaling, and lifecycle management for database environments. Mentor L2 DBAs and collaborate with application, infrastructure, and cloud teams. Automate operational tasks using scripting (Shell, Python, Ansible, etc.). Skill Requirements PostgreSQL Certified (preferred) Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and AWS RDS Strong understanding of database performance tuning and query optimization Fluent in English Willingness to work in shifts Knowledge of ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow) Linux/Unix system administration awareness Strong scripting skills (Shell/Python) Problem solving and analytical skills Experience in change implementation and infrastructure setup B-Tech or equivalent Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
