Job Summary
The Technical Writer is responsible for converting, migrating, formatting, and maintaining technical documentation from legacy formats, primarily PDF documents and, where applicable, Adobe FrameMaker source files, into Microsoft Word in accordance with Baker Hughes documentation standards, templates, and style guidelines. The role involves ensuring document accuracy, formatting consistency, content integrity, and compliance with established documentation requirements. The Technical Writer will support documentation modernization initiatives and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver high-quality technical publications.
A successful candidate will have:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Technical Writing, English, Journalism, Mass Communication, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution, OR equivalent professional experience.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in technical writing, document conversion, content migration, or technical documentation management.
Strong command of the English language, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and accurately.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Word, including styles, templates, section breaks, page layouts, tables, captions, headers and footers, cross-references, and document formatting.
Experience working with PDF-based technical documentation.

Experience converting and formatting technical documents in Microsoft Word while maintaining content accuracy and consistency.
Basic familiarity with Adobe FrameMaker is desirable but not mandatory.

Responsibilities
Migrating and converting technical documentation from PDF and, where required, Adobe FrameMaker formats into Microsoft Word in accordance with Baker Hughes documentation standards, templates, and style guidelines.
Applying approved Baker Hughes document templates, formatting standards, branding requirements, and style conventions to all converted documents.
Preserving document structure, formatting, tables, images, captions, numbering schemes, headers and footers, and technical content during the conversion process.
Reviewing converted documents to identify and correct formatting inconsistencies, layout issues, broken references, and content discrepancies.
Standardizing document formatting and structure to ensure consistency across technical manuals, procedures, forms, and supporting documentation.
Performing quality assurance reviews to ensure documentation accuracy, completeness, usability, and compliance with established standards.
Collaborating with SMEs, reviewers, and stakeholders to validate technical content and resolve documentation-related issues.
Creating, updating, and maintaining technical manuals, service procedures, work instructions, forms, and related technical publications.
Editing and optimizing graphics, screenshots, and visual content using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, SnagIt, or similar tools.
Interpreting engineering drawings, BOMs, wiring diagrams, and schematic diagrams to support document updates and validation activities.
Supporting documentation modernization and standardization initiatives through the migration of legacy content into approved Microsoft Word formats.
Maintaining document repositories and ensuring version control, consistency, and traceability of documentation updates.
Identifying opportunities to improve document quality, conversion processes, and documentation workflows.
Managing assigned documentation deliverables in accordance with project schedules, priorities, and quality expectations.
Focusing on technical accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement of documentation deliverables and processes.
