The Atlassian Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and governing enterprise‑scale Atlassian platforms that support Agile delivery, DevOps, ITSM and cross‑functional collaboration. This role provides architectural leadership across all Atlassian applications (Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, Bitbucket, Guard, etc) and the broader Atlassian ecosystem.
The architect will partner with business, product, engineering, and operations teams to design scalable, secure, and performant solutions aligned to organisational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Architecture & Solution Design
Design and lead end‑to‑end Atlassian platform architectures (Cloud), ensuring scalability, resilience, and integration with enterprise ecosystems for both new Cloud implementation and migration from Data-centre and Server versions to Cloud version
Translate business and technology needs into structured platform designs and technical specifications.
Lead the design and development of new Atlassian implementation
Lead the end-to-end cloud transformation, including developing comprehensive migration strategies, timelines, and resource plans.
Act as the primary technical point of contact for all project related activities and resolve technical blockers.
Assess current environments (Jira, Confluence, etc.) to define architecture, identify risks, dependencies, potential challenges, and establish mitigation plans.
Design scalable, secure, and cost-efficient solutions, creating architectural documentation including integration flows and data models.

Define and enforce governance, best practices, and security measures for configurations, customisations, and user management.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the team members.
Governance, Standards & Best Practices
Establish governance frameworks including workflows, work item types, user groups, permissions, automation, naming conventions, and configuration guidelines.
Define and enforce guardrails for Marketplace app usage, versioning, and lifecycle management.
Ensure compliance with enterprise security, audit, and regulatory requirements.
Lead Atlassian Guard implementations to improve security posture using SSO, MFA and centralised user provisioning
Integration & Automation
Architect integrations using REST APIs, webhooks, and middleware (e.g., Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, GitLab/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, identity providers, observability tools, and data platforms).
Build reusable automation patterns using Jira automation, ScriptRunner, PowerScripts, or Forge.
Guide team members to build agents using Forge
Performance, Reliability & Operations
Conduct platform health checks and performance assessments.
Define SLAs, monitoring dashboards, incident procedures, and backup/restore mechanisms.
Optimise large-scale instances (10,000+ users, multi‑project environments, large customisations).
Lead troubleshooting of complex platform or workflow issues.
Advisory & Stakeholder Management
Act as the subject matter expert for all Atlassian tools, advising senior stakeholders on platform strategy, licensing models, Cloud Enterprise adoption, and cost optimisation.
Drive organisational adoption, coach teams, and guide product owners, administrators, and developers.
Facilitate workshops with Agile coaches, engineering leaders, and ITSM/operations stakeholders.
Delivery Leadership
Lead or oversee Atlassian implementation squads (architects, admins, developers).
Provide quality assurance for Atlassian configurations, integrations, and customisations.
Contribute to proposal work, pre‑sales, customer roadmaps, and platform assessments.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills
Deep architecture experience across Atlassian Cloud and/or Data Center platforms.
