Senior SDM, Product and Offers Experience
Amazon
Amazon’s product detail page is where hundreds of millions of customers around the world decide what to buy every day. As one of the most widely used shopping experiences on the internet, it helps customers understand and compare products and influences 80% of purchases worldwide. This page improves the shopping for millions of customers while delivering billions of dollars in incremental sales.
We are looking for a Senior Software Development Manager to lead the Product Experience team within the Buying Experience (BuyX) organization. This team owns the "above-the-fold" evaluation experience on the Detail Page — the features customers use to understand a product before they add it to cart. That includes the Media Block (image gallery, videos, 3D), Title, Byline, Product Overview, Feature Bullets, Product Details and Description, the Twister and Twister+ variation-selection experience, Media Matrix etc. Our platforms are leveraged by more than 50+ teams across Amazon to contextualize the shopping experience based on different categories (softlines, books), marketplace, and program-specific experiences on top of them.
You will lead a team of software engineers (and their front-line managers) responsible for the vision, architecture, delivery, and operational health of these features across desktop, mobile web, and the Amazon Shopping app in 20+ marketplaces worldwide. You will own the multi-year technical roadmap in close partnership with Product, UX, Applied Science, and away-team leaders across categories (Softlines, Consumables, Automotive, Luxury, Amazon Business, and more). You will drive large, ambiguous investment areas, simplify above-the-fold information density on mobile, and lead the migration of our stack onto the next generation of platforms.
Key job responsibilities
- Own the multi-year roadmap and technical strategy for the Product Experience surface area on the detail page (Media Block, Title, Byline, Twister/Twister+, Media Matrix, Product Overview, Feature Bullets, Product Details, Product Description, CX Guardrails). Translate high-level BuyX and Core Shopping goals into a prioritized backlog with clear customer, business, and technical outcomes.
- Lead, hire, develop, and retain a high-performing engineering organization of software engineers and front-line managers. Raise the bar on hiring, coach engineers from SDE I through Principal, and grow the next generation of tech leads and managers. Own performance management, promotions, and succession planning for the team.
- Deliver customer-facing launches — from hypothesis and design through dial-up, bar-raiser review, and worldwide launch. Hold the team accountable to launch criteria on OPS, GCCP, CSales, latency, and defect guardrails, and to durable learnings even when experiments don't launch.
