Senior Director | Strategic Accounts | TAAP Segment
Thomson Reuters is building a new senior advisory function to serve our most strategic tax, audit, and accounting firm accounts. The Strategic Innovation Partner is a client-facing role operating at the intersection of AI strategy, technology transformation, and the business of professional tax and accounting services. This person engages senior firm leadership to help them think through how AI changes the way their organizations operate, compete, and deliver client work — and works across the full client lifecycle from pre-sale through post-sale to ensure Thomson Reuters is positioned as an indispensable strategic partner.
This is a peer advisory role. Its credibility depends entirely on the depth of experience the person brings from inside the accounting and tax profession. The role is not about product demos or adoption metrics — it is about executive relationships and strategic counsel at the firm leadership level.
This hybrid role can be based out of any of our strategic hub locations: Minneapolis-St. Paul, Ann Arbor, Dallas, NYC.
About the Role
In this opportunity as Strategic Innovation Partner, you will:
- Serve as the senior executive advisor for a portfolio of strategic accounting, audit, and tax firm accounts, engaging firm leadership — Managing Partner, CIO, Chief Innovation Officer, National Tax Practice Leader, COO — on AI strategy, transformation roadmap, and operating model design.
- Build trusted, peer-level relationships with firm leadership that give Thomson Reuters a seat at the table when strategic technology decisions are being made.
- Partner with the Account Executive across the full sales and relationship lifecycle — from pre-sale and close through post-sale — providing the executive credibility and strategic altitude that enables the broader account team to operate more effectively.
- Develop and deliver a clear, informed point of view on how AI is reshaping the economics and operating models of accounting and tax firms — grounded enough to hold up in a partners' committee or practice leadership conversation.
- Partner and maintain dotted line relationships to Product Organization to deeply understand our product roadmap, feature development and upcoming launches to best articulate back to customers.

- Represent Thomson Reuters at senior accounting, tax, and audit industry forums, client roundtables, and executive events where firm-level credibility is the prerequisite for the room.
About You
You’re a fit for the role of Strategic Innovation Partner if your background includes:
Experience working as a senior technology, innovation, or transformation leader inside a major accounting firm, audit practice, or tax advisory organization — such as a Director or Senior Director of Innovation, Technology, or Practice Transformation at a Big 4, national, or regional firm. You have operated at a level where you shaped firm strategy and built partner and leadership buy-in.
- 10–20 years of career experience, with meaningful time inside an accounting, audit, or tax advisory environment that mirrors the clients you will serve.
- Practical understanding of how accounting and tax firm partnership structures work — what drives partner adoption, how governance decisions get made across practice lines, and where technology change efforts stall.
- A grounded point of view on how AI changes tax compliance, audit delivery, advisory work, staffing, and pricing — developed through direct experience inside a firm, not observation.
- Fluency in the accounting and tax technology landscape, including Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE, Checkpoint, Accounting CS, or equivalent platforms, and how they fit into firm-wide technology strategy.
- Familiarity with the regulatory and compliance dimensions of the TAAP space — including how AI adoption intersects with audit independence requirements, professional standards, and data governance obligations.
- Ability to operate credibly with firm leadership without a commercial agenda — you will not carry a quota, but your relationships will directly influence retention and growth.
- Executive communication skills: effective one-on-one with a skeptical tax partner and equally effective in a firm innovation or technology committee presentation.
- Collaborative by nature — you will work alongside CSMs, Product Specialists, AI Solutions Architects, Forward Deployed Engineers, and Professional Services, each owning a distinct part of the client relationship.
