MATLAB tool creation, control-algorithm development for generator-side PMG converters, embedded firmware implementation, and system-level validation using real-time and hardware platforms. Converter Control Consultant with strong expertise in vector control of permanent-magnet (PM) machines, embedded software development, and MATLAB-based tool development for renewable-energy and industrial-drive applications. This role focuses on MATLAB tool creation, control-algorithm development for generator-side PMG converters, embedded firmware implementation, and system-level validation using real-time and hardware platforms. Key Responsibilities 1. Tools for Generator-Side Converter Control • Improve and develop MATLAB-based tools for parameter tuning of generator-side control loops in PMG-based wind turbines. • Use finite-element (FE) generator data to evaluate power capability across the turbine’s operating range. • Develop and implement generator-side control strategies directly into converter control software. 2. Control Algorithm Development • Design control algorithms to support various generator-side use cases such as torque control, speed control, start-up, and motoring modes. • Implement and test control code on real-time embedded platforms, requiring strong expertise in C programming. • Ensure high-quality software delivery through solid knowledge of GIT and modern version-control workflows. 3. Modelling & Simulation • Build and maintain detailed models of electrical machines, converters, controllers, and mechanical drivetrains using PLECS. • Perform dynamic simulations, stability analysis, system identification, and controller performance tuning. • Support continuous refinement of models to improve prediction accuracy and interaction studies. Classification: Confidential 4. System Integration & Cross-Functional Support • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software teams on generator converter interfaces and drivetrain interactions. • Support troubleshooting, commissioning activities, parameter tuning, and failure-mode analysis. • Prepare clear and structured documentation, technical reports, test specifications, and validation packages for internal and external stakeholders. Required Skills & Experience • Strong background in power electronics, motor drives, and in-depth knowledge of electrical machines. • Proficiency in embedded C/C++, real-time firmware development, DSP/microcontroller programming. • Expertise in MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, and model-based design workflows. • Hands-on experience with tuning control loops, validating control performance, and preparing structured engineering documentation. • Solid understanding of dq0 vector control, current-control loops, machine dynamics, and generator-side converter operation. Summary of Core Competencies The ideal candidate will bring: • Strong knowledge of generator control strategies (vector control, torque control, current loops, PMG-based converter control). • Robust software and embedded-firmware skills (C/C++, DSPs, version control, real-time implementation). • Proficient MATLAB/Simulink + PLECS modelling and tool-development capabilities. • Hands-on experience performing validation, testing, and system integration activities. • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience in power electronics, drives, or renewable-energy converter systems.
