Job Summary

The Pediatric Critical Care Consultant is responsible for providing specialized medical care to critically ill infants, children, and adolescents admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The role includes managing complex and life-threatening conditions, leading multidisciplinary teams, ensuring high standards of patient care, mentoring junior doctors, and contributing to academic, research, and quality improvement initiatives.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage critically ill pediatric patients admitted to the PICU.

• Lead the management of pediatric emergencies, including respiratory failure, septic shock, trauma, neurological emergencies, and multi-organ dysfunction.

• Manage advanced life support, mechanical ventilation (invasive and non-invasive), hemodynamic monitoring, vasoactive medications, renal replacement therapies, and other critical care interventions.

• Perform and supervise critical care procedures such as:

• Endotracheal intubation

• Central venous catheter insertion

• Arterial line placement

• Chest tube insertion

• Lumbar puncture

• Sedation and airway management

• Conduct daily multidisciplinary rounds and formulate evidence-based treatment plans.
