Job Summary
The Senior House Officer is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to pediatric patients with hematological disorders and malignancies under the supervision of consultants and senior residents. The SHO will assist in patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, emergency management, and follow-up care while participating in academic and quality improvement activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, examine, and manage pediatric patients with hematological and oncological conditions under consultant supervision.
- Provide inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and day-care clinical services.
- Monitor patients receiving chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and supportive care.
- Assist in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including bone marrow aspiration, lumbar puncture, intrathecal chemotherapy, and transfusion-related procedures, as appropriate.
- Participate in daily ward rounds and implement treatment plans.
- Recognize and promptly manage oncological and hematological emergencies under supervision.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records, discharge summaries, and clinical documentation.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding treatment plans and follow-up instructions.
- Coordinate patient care with nursing staff and other multidisciplinary teams.
- Participate in departmental academic activities, including case presentations, journal clubs, CMEs, and teaching sessions.
