DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a Process Engineer - Electrical & Electronics to drive electronics manufacturing process excellence, supplier industrialization, and technology transfer execution across Thermo Fisher Scientific's global EMS and Contract Manufacturing network.
This role will support printed circuit board assembly, cable and harness manufacturing, electrical system integration, test readiness, and electronics manufacturing standards. The position will partner with R&D, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and EMS partners to improve manufacturability, accelerate production ramp-up, and strengthen supplier performance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead development, optimization, and standardization of electronics manufacturing processes across EMS and Contract Manufacturing partners
Support technology transfers, new product introductions, and production ramp-up for PCB assemblies, cable assemblies, electrical subsystems, and electronic instrumentation platforms
Conduct supplier capability assessments covering SMT, through-hole assembly, soldering, conformal coating, cable/harness assembly, test capability, ESD controls, and process maturity
Partner with R&D and Manufacturing Engineering to influence DFM, DFT, DFA, component selection, panelization, test strategy, and manufacturability decisions

Develop electronics manufacturing standards, process documentation, work instructions, control plans, and best-practice playbooks
Support process validation, test validation, equipment qualification, pilot builds, and readiness reviews for electronics manufacturing processes
Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for electronics manufacturing defects, yield losses, test failures, supplier process issues, and transfer risks
Drive improvements in yield, throughput, cycle time, first-pass quality, and supplier execution using Lean and data-driven methodologies
Support BOE and BOP development for electronics manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, fixtures, and test infrastructure
Partner with Quality teams to ensure compliance with applicable IPC standards, quality requirements, change control, and traceability expectations
Collaborate with suppliers and supply chain teams to improve material readiness, component risk management, and production continuity
Capture lessons learned and translate them into reusable standards for future EMS and electronics transfers
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of experience or Master's degree with 6+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline
Experience in electronics manufacturing, EMS operations, manufacturing engineering, supplier engineering, industrialization, or technology transfer
Preferred Qualifications
Strong experience with EMS providers, PCB assembly operations, electronics manufacturing, electrical test, and supplier process development
Knowledge of SMT, through-hole assembly, soldering processes, cable and harness assembly, conformal coating, ESD controls, and electronics test methods
Experience with NPI, design transfer, process validation, production ramp-up, and supplier readiness assessments
Familiarity with IPC standards, electronics quality requirements, traceability, change control, and regulated manufacturing practices
Experience supporting complex instrumentation, analytical systems, life sciences equipment, diagnostics platforms, automation systems, or high-tech electronics products
Experience with ERP, PLM, MES, test data systems, document management platforms, or manufacturing analytics tools
Strong structured problem-solving skills for yield improvement, defect reduction, and supplier corrective action
Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional engineering, supplier, quality, and operations teams
Excellent technical documentation, communication, and presentation skills
