We are seeking a Principal Engineer – Software to lead the verification and validation of advanced avionics software systems. In this role, you will provide technical leadership in developing, verifying, and certifying safety-critical avionics solutions while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver world-class aerospace products.
The Opportunity
As a Principal Engineer – Software within the Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) engineering organization, you will be responsible for driving software verification and validation activities for DAL A safety-critical avionics products.
You will play a key role in defining verification strategies, mentoring engineering teams, solving complex technical challenges, and ensuring compliance with rigorous aerospace certification standards including DO-178B/C.
This position offers the opportunity to influence next-generation avionics platforms while working alongside experts across software engineering, systems engineering, architecture, and certification teams.
What You Will Do
- Provide technical leadership for software verification and validation activities supporting DAL A avionics products within the CNS domain.
- Define and execute verification strategies for advanced avionics navigation systems, including ILS, VOR, DSP, and GNSS-based solutions.

- Lead the development and enhancement of automation frameworks, verification tools, and test infrastructure to improve efficiency, coverage, and product quality.
- Drive execution of unit, integration, and system-level verification activities for embedded avionics software.
- Develop verification procedures, test cases, and requirements traceability solutions using tools such as DOORS, JIRA, or equivalent platforms.
- Perform requirements-based testing, code analysis, and structural coverage analysis to ensure compliance with DO-178B/C certification objectives.
- Lead technical reviews of software requirements, architecture, design, and implementation to ensure quality, robustness, and maintainability.
- Support software certification activities, customer reviews, regulatory audits, and compliance assessments with aviation authorities.
- Analyze verification results, drive defect resolution, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software releases.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers while promoting best practices in avionics software development and verification.
- Collaborate with architects and engineering leaders to develop scalable, sustainable, and safety-critical avionics software solutions.

Education
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Communication Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Experience
- 9–14 years of experience in avionics software development, verification, validation, or safety-critical embedded systems.
- Strong expertise in avionics systems, embedded software architecture, and safety-critical software development processes.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience with C/C++ and Python for embedded software development, automation, and verification activities.
- 8+ years of experience working with DO-178B/C standards and aerospace software certification processes.
- 5+ years of experience developing and executing software verification plans, test strategies, procedures, and validation activities.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and provide technical leadership within engineering teams.
- Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with avionics navigation systems and CNS technologies.
- Strong understanding of navigation algorithms, digital signal processing, and RF-based avionics systems.
- Experience with requirements management and defect tracking tools such as DOORS, JIRA, or equivalent.
- Prior experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives.
Work Environment
This position is classified as Hybrid, based on business requirements and location.
Employees in hybrid roles collaborate both onsite and remotely, with onsite expectations determined in partnership with the business and leadership team.
