Metrology Technician - Level II

Assists engineers, under moderate supervision, in applying technical principles of dimensional measurement science as related to test systems and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Provides basic product and component testing using a range of measurement methods. Utilizes established testing procedures, including automated procedures as needed. Provides basic programming, training and operation of Measurement and Test Equipment (M&TE). Serves as a technical resource to assist lab managers, engineers and customers in the selection of appropriate test methods/technology and analyzes and interprets measurement data. Assists customers in understanding/interpreting product specifications and application of measurement data. Participates in inter-laboratory comparisons and measurement assurance programs. Assists with uncertainty studies associated with measurement or calibration results. Assists with maintaining the laboratory quality system. Applies knowledge of applicable quality standards (e.g. 17025, ISO 9001, AITF 16949) and appropriate Cummins procedures. Purchases necessary lab services and consumables. Applies proper maintenance and calibration of the M&TE utilized with scope of work. Assists with reporting of appropriate data quality metrics associated with assigned work. Follows the laboratory strategy, SIPOC (Supplier, Input, Process, Output, Customer) process and score card. Assists with continuous improvement activities related to data quality, lab quality system etc.

Measurement Science - Analyzes measurement processes throughout the relevant traceability chain to identify and quantify sources of measurement uncertainty relevant to the appropriate applied measurement science, “Metrology” e.g. Chemical, Dimensional, Electrical, Mechanical, Optical and Radiation and Physical.
