The Lead Engineer – Ex Test is responsible for leading explosion-proof (Ex) and flameproof product testing activities to ensure compliance with global standards and certification requirements. This role involves defining test procedures, executing critical explosion tests, managing laboratory operations, and providing technical expertise in hazardous area testing while maintaining quality, safety, and continuous improvement within the laboratory.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
Define and develop test procedures for explosion-proof and flameproof product testing in line with international standards such as IEC, UL, and CSA
Prepare and validate test setups ensuring adherence to standard requirements and defined acceptance criteria
Identify and recommend modifications required for test samples prior to testing
Lead execution of specialized tests including Explosion Pressure, Non-Transmission, and Spark Ignition tests
Prepare detailed and accurate test reports supporting certifications such as ATEX, IECEx, NEC, and CEC
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support validation and pre-compliance testing requirements
Demonstrate deep technical understanding of flameproof enclosure design and testing methodologies
Analyze gas group behaviors (IIA, IIB, IIC) and explosion characteristics
Interpret explosion pressure waveforms, flame paths, and propagation characteristics
Utilize instrumentation and data acquisition systems (DAQ) for pressure transient analysis

Apply knowledge of IEC/UL/CSA 60079 standards, ATEX directives, and IECEx certification schemes
Lead operation and maintenance of explosion testing laboratory, including explosion chambers, DAQ systems, gas mixing panels, and ignition systems
Ensure laboratory processes are standardized, accurate, and aligned with quality requirements
Maintain high standards of 5S and ensure strict adherence to safety practices
Support implementation and maintenance of ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory quality management systems
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in lab capabilities and processes
Mentor and guide technicians in test setup, sample preparation, and execution
Drive continuous learning and competency development within the team

For This Role, You Will Need:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution
Strong hands-on experience in explosion-proof (Ex) testing, particularly as per IEC 60079-1 standards
In-depth knowledge of flameproof enclosure design and hazardous area testing principles
Experience with international standards such as IEC, UL, and CSA
Familiarity with certification requirements including ATEX and IECEx
Expertise in test setup design, execution, and detailed technical reporting
Experience in laboratory management, safety practices, and equipment handling
Relevant experience in laboratory testing environments, preferably in hazardous area testing
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
Experience working in NABL-accredited or equivalent laboratories
Advanced understanding of explosion physics, pressure analysis, and gas behavior
Hands-on experience with DAQ systems and pressure transient analysis tools
Exposure to regulatory audits and accreditation processes
Demonstrated ability to lead lab operations and mentor technical teams
Continuous improvement mindset with experience in enhancing lab capabilities
