Operating at the intersection of urban analytics, data science, and design, the lab combines massive datasets, advanced models, and automation to deliver real-time diagnostics and scalable insights for clients and partners worldwide.Job Description:These roles are designed for early-career professionals (2 to 3 years experience), who are passionate about cities, data, and evidence-based planning. You will work alongside experienced data scientists on real-world engagements across African and Middle Eastern cities, gaining exposure to everything from mobility data processing to spatial econometrics -in a structured, mentorship-rich environment.Key Responsibilities
- Support data acquisition, cleaning, and validation for urban analytics projects -working with mobility traces, POI data, census figures, satellite imagery, cell phone data and transport network datasets.
- Develop and maintain Python-based data processing scripts and Jupyter notebooks under the guidance of senior team members.
- Perform exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA) and produce visualisations that communicate patterns in urban form, movement, and land use.
- Assist in the design and implementation of spatial databases (PostgreSQL/PostGIS) and contribute to pipeline documentation.
- Contribute to the preparation of client deliverables: charts, maps, summary tables, and written analytical sections.
- Participate in internal knowledge-sharing sessions and research sprints, staying current on urban data science methods and tools.
- Gradually take ownership of discrete analytical modules within larger projects, with increasing autonomy over time.Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Urban Planning, Data Science, Geography, Geoinformatics, Economics, and a related discipline.
- 13 years of relevant professional or research experience (including internships, dissertation work, and independent projects).
- Working knowledge of Python for data analysis familiarity with pandas, geopandas, and matplotlib is essential.
