You are the person who walks onto a shop floor, looks at a machine, and knows exactly where to put a sensor, which sensor to use, and how to get clean data flowing to our platform. You will physically deploy IIoT sensors on industrial machines, define sensor placement, configure controller integrations, validate end-to-end data pipelines, and be the trusted face of TwinUp on the shop floor.
You will work closely with the founding team and directly with the client's maintenance and engineering teams. Your field expertise directly informs our product decisions and hence it is a key role in the company's growth phase.
Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include
Assess new machine types independently: Identify critical measurement points, determine appropriate sensor types (vibration, temperature, current, pressure), and specify the sensor BOM.
Mount and commission IoT sensors (accelerometers, RTDs, CT clamps, flow switches) on CNC machines, compressors, and other industrial equipment.
Configure OPC UA / FOCAS / MTConnect data interfaces on CNC controllers (Siemens, Fanuc, Mitsubishi).
Set up and validate edge gateways (Raspberry Pi / industrial PCs): Network config, data streaming, basic troubleshooting.
Verify signal quality for every channel: Check vibration baselines, temperature curves, and current readings against expected values.
Follow LOTO and site safety protocols; coordinate with customer electrical and maintenance teams.
During the first 2-4 weeks post-install: Monitor raw data streams daily, flag signal dropout, noise, drift, and readings outside expected physical ranges. Do not wait for alerts; actively audit.
Feed field learnings back to the product team: What worked, what didn't, and what the customer actually cares about.

Hands-on IoT/instrumentation deployment (preferably on real shop floors or industrial sites): Not cloud or software-only experience.
Demonstrated ability to independently assess an unfamiliar machine, identify measurement points, and specify the correct sensor type and placement.
Worked with at least one of: Vibration sensors (IEPE accelerometers), current transducers - mounted on running machines.
Basic networking and data pipeline knowledge: IP configuration, MQTT or HTTP data flows, ability to diagnose why data is not reaching the platform (gateway, firewall, broker, or sensor-level issues).
Ability to read electrical panel drawings and follow LOTO procedures without supervision.
Strong communication with non-technical shop floor teams - in Kannada, Hindi, or English.
Nice to have:
Experience with Siemens 828D/840D or Fanuc 0i/30i controller data interfaces.
Basic OPC UA or FOCAS familiarity.
Background at an automation integrator, machine tool OEM, or industrial IoT startup.
Exposure to vibration/current analysis concepts - basic awareness.
Familiarity with MQTT, Node-RED, or similar IIoT middleware.
This role is not for you if:
Your IoT experience is cloud/software-only: We need someone who knows how to physically mounted sensors on machines.
You are uncomfortable on active shop floors or with electrical panels.
You need a fully defined playbook before starting: This is a zero-to-one deployment environment.
You expect sensor specs, placement diagrams, and a deployment playbook to be handed to you: We need someone who can figure this out independently on an unfamiliar machine.
