What You’ll Do
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead the teams overseeing the systems that power live game configuration, blueprint and content delivery, feature controls, and the backend runtime that serves core gameplay and live operations at scale. You will be accountable for team health, technical execution, operational excellence, and cross-functional delivery across a complex live-service ecosystem, ensuring that tools used by designers and live-ops teams translate safely and reliably into production game behavior.
Lead and grow an engineering team responsible for both Game Backend and Live Tools, including coaching, performance management, hiring, and career development
Own delivery across two tightly connected domains: the internal content/configuration platform and the live backend services that power player-facing gameplay systems
Drive execution for systems that manage blueprints, game configuration, live-ops content, server controls, A/B testing, segmentation, and feature rollout workflows
Partner closely with product, design, analytics, QA, and operations to plan and deliver live-service features, events, and tooling improvements
Ensure strong operational rigor across backend services, including reliability, performance, observability, incident response, and production readiness

Guide technical direction for a large Python/Django ecosystem built on Redis, DynamoDB, async job processing, and blueprint-driven runtime behavior
Oversee the health of deployment and publishing flows that move data between services, including blueprint packaging, environment promotion, caching, and rollout safety
Help the team balance short-term live-ops responsiveness with long-term platform investments, code health, and system maintainability
Establish clear engineering processes for planning, prioritization, estimation, quality, release management, and cross-team coordination
Partner with senior engineers and tech leads on architecture, technical risk management, and modernization opportunities across legacy and live production systems
Create strong feedback loops with stakeholders who depend on internal tools, ensuring design, content, and live-ops workflows are efficient, safe, and scalable
Support live-service excellence by leading incident reviews, improving operational playbooks, and hardening systems that directly affect player experience
What We’re Looking For
Experience Technical Skills
6+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years of people management or technical team leadership experience
Proven experience managing backend or platform teams supporting live-service products, game services, or other high-availability systems
Demonstrated success leading through ambiguity, aligning cross-functional stakeholders, and delivering across multiple parallel workstreams
Strong people-management skills, including coaching, feedback, performance management, and building healthy, accountable engineering culture
Experience balancing execution, technical quality, and long-term platform evolutionin a fast-moving product environment
Strong backend engineering foundation, ideally in Python and Django or similarly large service-oriented web platforms
Solid understanding of live backend systems, RESTful APIs, distributed systems, caching, asynchronous processing, and operational tooling
Hands-on familiarity with Redis, DynamoDB, and data models used in performance-sensitive, high-throughput applications
Experience with systems that manage configuration, feature flags, experiments, content pipelines, or blueprint/data-driven runtime behavior
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and service operations, especially AWS-based environments and supporting developer workflows
Ability to partner credibly in architecture and debugging discussions involving reliability, scale, release safety, and production incidents
Experience improving engineering practices around testing, deployment, observability, code review, and maintainability in large shared codebases
Cross-Functional and Domain Knowledge
Experience supporting internal tools used by non-engineering teams such as game design, live-ops, economy design, QA, or analytics
Strong understanding of how backend systems, admin tools, and content pipelines work together to power live events, gameplay tuning, and player-facing experiences
Experience with A/B testing, segmentation, rollout controls, or live configuration systems is strongly preferred
Comfortable partnering across technical and non-technical functions to translate product and operational needs into durable engineering solutions
Experience in mobile games, live-service games, or game-adjacent backend/platform environments is highly preferred
Soft Skills & Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Strong communication skills, with the ability to align engineers, stakeholders, and leadership around priorities, tradeoffs, and outcomes
Pragmatic, organized, and highly accountable, with a strong sense of ownership for both team effectiveness and production quality
Passion for games, live operations, and building systems that help teams ship better player experiences safely and efficiently
