We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Apprentice Software Specialist to join our Lifecycle Management (LCM) Team as part of a 24-month apprenticeship program.
This role is intended for recent graduates in Computer Science, Biomedical or related disciplines who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in software design control, medical device lifecycle management, and platform sustainment activities.
The apprentice will work closely with experienced engineers and gain exposure to the end-to-end lifecycle of regulated medical devices, including software maintenance, platform upgrades, operating system patching, testing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare, coordinate, document post-production software deliverable updates in accordance with established procedures, collaborating closely with stakeholders.
Ensure all revisions are accurately reflected in the designated document repository and the appropriate Design History File (DHF).
Collaborate with both onshore and offshore Software Verification and Validation (V&V) teams to provide necessary inputs for test cycles and support post-test documentation updates.
Support audits, regulatory, and compliance activities by gathering, analyzing, and delivering requested information. Ensure documentation is updated in alignment with evolving regulatory requirements.

Partner with the Lake Forest and India software development teams to support development efforts and ensure timely delivery of associated software development artifacts.
Contribute to software development, maintenance, and lifecycle management activities for medical device products.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing software quality, reliability, and maintainability.
Support automation initiatives and drive productivity improvements wherever applicable.
LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT
During the apprenticeship, the candidate will gain exposure to:
Alcon Surgical Devices
Medical Device Software – Development Lifecycle (IEC 62304)
Software Design Control and Software Change Management procedures
Operating system patch creation and computerized system validation processes
Regulations and Guidelines
Emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence applications in engineering workflows.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirement
Bachelor’s degree (B.E / B.Tech/ B.Sc) in: Computer Science, Biomedical, Or related disciplines
Basic understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
STEM – Applied Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math
Personal Effectiveness Competencies:
Analytical thinking, attention to detail and quality-oriented mindset
Strong documentation and reporting skills
Good communication and teamwork abilities
Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes
Good interpersonal and Communication skills to build positive departmental and inter-departmental relationships in a virtual, remote and asynchronous environment.
Skills and Knowledge:
Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
Superior verbal English communication skill (in a remote environment)
Awareness of software development lifecycle processes
